Ignition Partners, one of the Seattle area’s leading venture capital companies, needed to solve a number of problems with their current recruiting process. First, the shear volume of resumes they were receiving and needed to manage for their portfolio companies had grown significantly. This often meant that companies were not informed of highly qualified people who had registered their interest in a particular position. In addition, it was quite difficult to communicate efficiently with the group of prospects who had registered their interest in a position and the pool of qualified candidates often went untapped.
An assessment of the recruiting process identified the attractiveness of a web-based resume management program. It was determined that by automating their existing system, it would be possible for prospects to send their resumes directly to Ignition via the Internet. In this way, the recruiting manager at Ignition Partners would be able to collect, identify and then sort resumes by job category and skill level quickly and efficiently.
Ignition Partners selected DataWeb to build a custom web database resume repository system. The primary reason for selecting DataWeb was the company’s ability to customize their core program to reflect the way Ignition does business. A hosted relational database was designed that is searchable in resume, notes and other customizable fields. It includes simple contact management with automated email responses. It was also important to be able to quickly backup this data onto the internal server. It took about two months to build.
A major benefit to Ignition’s HR recruiting efforts is the key word search functionality. The recruiting process is reflected in the intuitive five-button design, and the ease of customizing fields on the desktop serves workflow productivity. The hosted nature of the program allows secure access from anywhere, including home or portfolio client offices. It also allows complete control of who can access the database, permitting the right people to see the candidate information when and where they need it.
